Our tour of Tuscany continues today with a visit to the Brunello-producing estate Cerbaia. Owned by Fabio Pellegrini, the winery is blessed with one of this renowned zone’s best sites, just a few miles north-west of the town of Montalcino (below) at 1,100 feet above sea level. The vineyards, barely over three acres, sit in a spot with excellent ventilation and great diurnal temperature variation.
Enologist Pietro Rivella of the esteemed Altesino winery oversees production for Cerbaia: his Brunello is made in the classic mold with plenty of firm tannins and zesty acidity which help the wine as it matures. With the dust from last year’s Brunellopoli affair having finally settled, this holiday season let’s rediscover what makes Montalcino’s wines so special in the first place. And at 20% off, there’s no better time to fall in love with Brunello all over again!
