Summertime, and the living is easy! But even the Gershwins would have been dismayed by the incessant showers which have continued to drench New York this past June. Now with July just around the corner it looks like the hot season may finally be here. At I Trulli we just can’t wait to bask  in some warm weather and revel in the cool seclusion of our lush back garden — so why not join us?

This evening we’ll be tasting all five of these great summer wines and enjoying Chef Patti Jackson‘s delicious spread of seasonal antipasti. Let’s wave goodbye to a cool, wet June and welcome a (hopefully) hot and sunny July!

Taste three of our favorite wines for summer at our final Friday tasting*

lake 1 blog

The month of June looks set to become one of the coolest and wettest in New York in almost fifty years, so it’s with a sigh of relief that Vino welcomes some long overdue warm sunshine. And as we head towards Independence Day weekend, what better time to start stocking up on refreshing summer wines for a memorable July 4th and beyond!

In the northern-most reaches of Trentino-Alto Adige, the warm days, cool nights and gentle breezes rolling off Lake Caldaro (above) provide producer Castel Sallegg with some of the region’s optimum grape growing sites (below). This ideal combination of factors results in some of our freshest wines, guaranteed to keep you cool all summer long.

Taste all three wines this Friday, June 26, from 5:30pm, in what will be our final Friday tasting event of the season: beginning July 2nd, our free tastings will be moving to Thursdays!

Discovering Calabria

June 15, 2009

Taste four of our favorite wines from this southern region of Italy, this Friday at Vino!

Discover Calabria blog

This Friday Vino invites you to discover the region of Calabria, as we pour four of our favorite calabrese wines in a special tasting for DISCOVERING CALABRIA. The event is part of a shop and dine promotional campaign organized by the Italian Trade Commission, in partnership with Regione Calabria, to educate and inform food and wine lovers about the delicious specialties from this region in southern Italy.

Though not particularly famous for its wine production, Calabria currently devotes nearly 60,000 acres to grapevines, and includes 12 DOC appellations, 13 IGT appellations, and almost three-dozen major and secondary grape varieties. About 91% of Calabria’s wine production is red or rosé, with a large portion made from the indigenous Gaglioppo grape. However, Calabria’s DOCs also produce exquisitely delicate whites, as well as a few sparkling, dessert and fortified wines. Chief among these appellations is Cirò which according to local legend, is the oldest continuously made wine in the world, dating back over 2,500 years.

Join us on Friday, June 19, when we’ll be pouring some of our favorite wines from Calabria:

Scavigna Pian della Corte 2007 Odoardi

Cirò Duca San Felice 2005 Librandi

Melissa Mutrò 2004 Cantina Val di Neto Cirò

Ronco dei Quattroventi 2005 Fattoria San Francesco

Friday, June 19

For more details call 212-725-6516 or email

Visit for further information on Calabria. The following promotional clip for Regione Calabria stars Milan‘s World Cup-winning soccer star Gennaro “Ringhio” Gattuso, a true calabrese if ever there was one. Famed for his passionate aggression on the field and good humor off it, Gattuso’s nickname derives from the verb ringhiare (“to growl/snarl”).
