Introducing Tuscan producer Cerbaia: classic Sangiovese Grosso wine from the team behind Altesino
Vino is excited to introduce Montalcino producer Cerbaia, and in particular its Rosso di Montalcino 2005. Often regarded as a baby brother to Brunello, Rosso di Montalcino does not require such extended aging, resulting in a younger, more vivacious wine. Cerbaia owner Fabio Pellegrini is blessed with one of this renowned zone’s best sites, just a few miles north-west of Montalcino at 1,100 feet above sea level.
With so many Italian wine enthusiasts having been consumed by the scandal which has surrounded Montalcino this year, at Vino we couldn’t wait to get back to the more important task of enjoying some of the famous Tuscan town’s best wines. Cerbaia’s 2005 Rosso di Montalcino did not let us down: Altesino enologist Piero Rivella uses 100% Sangiovese Grosso, vinified with 15-days skin contact in temperature-controlled stainless steel before spending one year in Slavonian oak casks. Offering great life and structure, Rosso di Montalcino 2005 Cerbaia is an ideal wine to serve this holiday season.
