It’s August 15, which in Italy means Ferragosto! This Italian mid-summer holiday takes its name from the Latin “Feriae Augusti“, after the Roman Emperor Augustus, and was later adopted by the Catholic church to commemorate the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. Today it generally signifies vacanze al mare, as Italians flock to the seaside, a mass exodus which can leave Italy’s usually bustling cities nothing but deserted ghost towns. Whether or not you’re heading to the beach this weekend, it’s the perfect occasion to taste some of Italy’s most interesting summer wines at Vino!
Don’t forget — Vino will now be offering its FREE tastings twice a week! For the rest of August, Vino will be pouring a selection of five wines on Thursday and Friday afternoons between 5:30 and 7:30pm. These wines will be available with a special 20% discount through Labor Day!
